My name is Mahsima “Mahsi”. As a child, I grew up around a family of artists. My grandma was an oil painter, my grandpa a wood carver, my mom loved to paint, make jewlery and create graphics.
Anytime my mom created something in photoshop or illustrator, I was mesmerized.
My love for graphic design has only grown since then.
I knew fairly young that I wanted to serve in the military as well. When I first enlisted, I chose to be a carpentry and masonry specialist because I determined that was a practical career choice.
But let me tell you how wrong I was!
I always joke, to be a good carpenter, you have to know how to read a tape measure. Unfortunately for me, that’s not something that came naturally.
Luckily, I served under some great leaders who recognized my potential to serve as a Unit Public Affairs Representative. While fufilling this role during a deployment, I learned my passion for sharing our stories.
As a graphic design student, many of the tasks I was required to do, fell right in line with my career goals. I also learned how to do many things outside of graphic design. As a full time public affairs noncomissioned officer, I have enhanced my writing, photography, videography and graphic skills.
